Sisoguichi Mission

Occasionally written Sisoguichic, it is a town in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, located high in the Sierra Tarahumara, in the municipality of Bocoyna, of which it constitutes its third locality by population. It was for a long time the main center of the Catholic missions in the region, founded in 1676 by the Jesuit priest Antonio Oreña as a mission to evangelize and settle the Tarahumara or Rarámuris indigenous people who inhabited the region, its colonial-style buildings they are mixed with the color of the typical raramuri clothing, the taste for tradition is appreciated by one of the activities that has made Sisoguichi famous even outside of Mexico, is the artisanal elaboration of rustic wooden furniture, there are three factories dedicated to its production ,, these pieces of furniture are built with wood from the region.
